I’ve been baking for 37 years (had a business for the most part). I cannot tell you how many Red Velvet Cakes I have made in those years. I ran across this recipe a couple of weeks ago when someone ordered one. I used it. I will never use another RVC recipe again. This is the most moist, delicious cake. Could not believe how thick the layers were! Got great reviews. Thank you!

I made this as a special request for my nephews favorite a “red velvet cake” I chose this one because of the buttermilk ingredient, I had to double the recipe due to how many people attending, it came out so delicious everyone swooned and praised how wonderfully delicious it was, thank you for a great recipe, only thing when choosing a single, double or even tripling the recipe still suggestions the three round 9” cake pan and did not change to anything more or less so I had to guess (doubling the recipe) I used my largest cake pan and it came out huge but too much cake is better than not enough. And the frosting was delicious as well, thank you again.

Just a tip for cream cheese lovers: I always use Ermine frosting except I use 1/2 butter and 1/2 cream cheese in the recipe… best of both worlds.

Ok, I don’t normally leave reviews but I have to on this one because it is the most amazing red velvet cake EVER! You will not be disappointed. The only change I made was decreasing cocoa to 1/4 cup. Everything for cake recipe was spot on. I know it may not make sense but you will see when you bake it. I did do extra cream cheese frosting but used 16 ozs cream cheese, 8 cups plus a little more powdered sugar, 2 sticks butter, 2 tsp salt and a dash of salt. This is my gold medal prize recipe!

I made this for my grandson’s graduation per his request. It was fabulous! Moist and so flavorful. Cream cheese frosting was wonderful. It turned out so good someone thought it was from a famous nearby bakery!

In reply to Steve. If you want to prevent doming. I would recommend checking out cake strips. They are basically fabric strips that u soak in cold water for abt 10 minutes wring them out and go on to the exterior of the pans. Once they are applied you get an even bake in the oven which prevents doming and it also stops the edges from drying out and getting crispy

I thought this was going to be the best red velvet cake that I’ve ever made but it was not…..I followed the recipe to the T & was very disappointed w/the outcome; color (brown), texture a bit too dense and the taste very chocolatey
